Arduino pin description - The arduino pin configuration is very easy as all the arduino pin and icsp arduino pinout is labelled on arduino uno board.

The arduino uno board has mainly two types of pins ,

1. Digital pins
2. Analog pins

Total functional input output(digital/analog) pin of arduino uno is 20.

Arduino digital pins

The arduino uno board has 14 digital pins.But we can get two more input/output pins if we are using ic(atmega328 arduino ic) alone.Its by removing the crystal pins and by using internal oscillator fuses function we can gain these two pins.Its a little complicated.

But arduino uno board as a whole in real world application we have only 14 digital pins.

The pins starting from D0-D13 is known as digital pins.

Analog pins in arduino uno


There are totally 6 analog pins in arduino.

The pins starting from A0- A5 is known as analog pins.

These pins can carry voltage levels from 0-1023.ie, a total of 1024 analog voltage levels
is possible with these pins. These pins are usually used for analog input signal processing.


Arduino uno pin functions

D0 pin - Used as digital input/output function.This pin is also known as serial data receiver pin.

D1 pin - Digital inout/ output pin.This pin can act as serial data transmitter.

D2 pin - Digital input/output pin(i/o), interrupt 0 pin

D3 pin - Digital input/ output pin/ PWM pin, Interrupt 1 pin

D4 pin - Digital i/o pin

D5 pin - Digital i/o pin

D6 pin - Digital i/o pin

D7 pin - Digital i/o pin

D8 pin - Digital i/o pin


D9 pin - Digital i/o pin, PWM pin

D10 pin - Digital i/o pin, PWM pin, SS pin

D11 pin - Digital i/o pin, PWM pin, MOSI pin

D12 pin - Digital i/o pin, MISO pin

D13 pin - Digital i/o pin, SCK pin


Pin 10, 11, 12, 13 is known as SPI pins.These are high speed serial data transmitter/receiver pins






A0 - Analog i/o pin

A1 - Analog i/o pin

A2 - Analog i/o pin

A3 - Analog i/o pin

A4 - Analog i/o pin, SDA pin

A5 - Analog i/o pin, SCL pin

Pin A4, A5 are I2C pins of arduino uno

Reset - Used for reseting arduino

3.3 V  - Regulated 3.3 Volt DC supply for specefic applications and modules

5 V     - 5V DC supply for external module interfacing

Gnd   - Ground pin of arduino

Aref   - Analog reference which is a high precision analog data signal input which can be given to arduino.
