DVD player LED Display Recycling |
DVD player LED display recycling project using arduino program. This is to find out the pinout and testing a DVD player LED display for arduino projects.
The above figure is the DVD display module which is a 7 segment led display of four segments. Its very simple to connect this module with arduino.

The display unit comes with 12 pins which you can see in its backside. The pinout of the LED display is count from left to right. The pin count image of LED display is shown below.
Pin 1 to pin 7 - segment display pin of arduino uno
pin 8 to Pin 11 - 4 digit control pin Pin 12 - Dot pin(optional)

The LED display pin is count from left to right as shown in the above figure. The red arrow mark on left most of the image indicates the starting(LED Display Pin 1).So that we should count as pin 1, pin 2, pin 3 etc. upto pin 12 right most (LED display Pin 12).
So we have a total of 12 pins on the LED display.
The blue arrow mark indicates the connection to arduino uno.
You can see from the starting left an arrow mark is indicated as blue colour with a label text as Ard 4.This means that we should connect that pin to the Arduino uno's digital pin 4.
Like this manner we should connect all the pins to arduino.
Also you can see the last pin(LED display pin 12) is connected to Arduino pin 11(Ard pin 11).This is an optional dot display pin.It is not used for the digits to drive else it's used to display a separation between digits usually a single or multiple LEDS are used often.
For example - In digital clocks two LEDS are used to separate hours, minutes, seconds of the display.which may or maynot blink.
So that we are connecting to Arduino pin 11 which is used before. We can connect the last pin to anywhere, or leave this pin unused.
